Adjutant Chapman,

So very happy to talk to you this morning regarding extending The American Legion presence at the 2015 Department of Defense Warrior Games to be held from 19-29 June at MCB Quantico there in Virginia.

Operation Comfort Warriors has been involved for the last several months in developing a grant with the Army’s Warrior Games Team.  They will have 40 competitors attending the Warrior Games in sports such as track & field, swimming, shooting, basketball, volleyball and even wheelchair rugby.

I am the new OCW coordinator as of Monday so it has been my pleasure to close out the last of the purchases for this grant and I will be travelling to meet the Army Team and attend their opening ceremonies at 11am on the 19th.  The opening ceremonies will be held at the Marine Corps Museum there at the base so it will be held at a very appropriate location to recognize these service members and their athletic skills.  The Legion Magazine plans to assign a journalist to interview the Army Team members and any Legionnaires who attend the opening ceremonies.
Getting your local Legionnaires to the event as you suggested would be a great opportunity for them to aid in volunteering at the games as well as helping to foster potential new members amongst the service members present.

Attached is the link to the Warrior Games website for basic information as well as a link for registration of your VIPs with the event staff.

So we don’t double-tap any of our VIPs, I understand that you will pass this information along to the Department Cmdr. Gerald Rhoads, your NEC Mr. Mitrione along with PNC Dan Dellinger and your NVC Mr. Bryant.  I will inform the Americanism Director Jill Druskis and the National Adjutant Daniel Wheeler though our staff channels after you confirm your leadership’s attendance plans.  I will also be extending invitations to members of the National Staff in the DC office to help bolster the Legion presence there.

I am sure the Army Team who received our OCW Grant will be very happy to see you all there cheering on all the Warriors participating in the games no matter what service they are in.

Sincerely,

Bruce M. Drake
