Department of Virginia American Legion Family Members,
This year, the 17th District has the privilege of hosting the American Legion Department of Virginia’s Annual Convention to be held at the Hilton Washington Dulles Airport, 13869 Park Center Road, Herndon, VA from July 13th thru July 16th, 2017.
The 17th District Convention Committee has been working for some time now putting together an exciting and informative convention.  It is rapidly approaching and will be here in only 5 short weeks.
Here is a highlight of what we have planned for you:
Thursday, July 13th
  • 8 am to 3 pm – Golf Tournament to benefit American Legion Baseball at the premier Golf Club at Lansdowne.
  • Join Hiring Our Heroes and the American Legion for a job fair for service members, veterans, and military spouses in Herndon.
    • 9 am to 10 am – Personal Branding Workshop –

      a variety of topics including resume building, networking, and interview tips, taking into account the job seeker’s military background and lifestyle.

    • 10 am to 2 pm – Hiring Fair
  • 6 pm to 8 pm – Thursday Night Party – “Take me out to the Ballgame” – Barbecue with DJ, Richie Cunningham. There will be door prizes and 50/50.
Friday, July 14th
  • 9 am to 3 pm – VA Health Screening open to all Veterans. This screening will be done inside and will be performed by VA employees. Testing for Blood Pressure, Cholesterol and Hepatitis C will be done at no charge.
  • 9 am to 4 pm – DMV Van – Eligible Veterans can apply for their Commonwealth of Virginia’s Veterans ID Card.
  • 1pm – Come at witness a presentation by the United States Coast Guard Drill Team – Location to be announced depending upon weather.
  • 8 pm to Midnight – Friday Night Dance – “Friday Night at the Game”. Karaoke with Joe Clay. There will be door prizes, raffle and 50/50. Come in your best Baseball gear … there will be a prize for the best dressed!
Saturday, July 15th
  • 9 am to Noon – DMV Van – Eligible Veterans can apply for their Commonwealth of Virginia’s Veterans ID Card.
  • 1PM – Come and witness a presentation by the United States Marine Corps Silent Drill Team from Quantico. Location to be announced depending upon weather.
  • 7 pm to 9 pm – Convention Banquet – Guest Speaker Colonel Jason Garkey, Commander of the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) at Fort Myer. Entertainment by the Brass Quintet from Pershing’s own Army Band at Ft. Myer. Door Prizes and 50/50.
  • 9 pm to Midnight – Saturday dance after the Banquet – music by DJ Richie Cunningham. Door Prizes and 50/50.
There will be various committee and program meetings with the latest information received from our National Headquarters. Agenda will be published and posted on line shortly.

There is lots of interesting activities planned and this is a great opportunity to get together with like-minded American Legion Family members and make new friends and re-kindle old relationships.
