It is with great sorrow that we announce that Past Department Commander James R. Chapman has joined Post Everlasting.
James Chapman was a 28 year member of the American Legion Post 56 in Virginia and Post 911 in Pennsylvania. He was the 2015-2016 Department of Virginia Commander.
James R. Chapman, 74, MSGT USAF Retired, Stoystown, died December 15, 2020. Born August 15, 1946, the son of Carl and Violet (Waller) Chapman. Preceded in death by father and brother, Alvin. Survived by wife, Sandra; sons, Charles and James (Courtney); 4 grandchildren; brothers, Carl, Tom and Robert; sister, Janice; and a number of nieces and nephews. James was retired from the U.S. Air Force after serving 20 years. A former law enforcement officer in VA. He earned his BA at VA Wesleyan College at age 50.
